Another cracking night out at The Canton Arms, this time with Dad who I wasn’t sure would like it. He loved it. No tables available (on a very busy Tuesday night) so we sat at the bar. Starters were quick to arrive – Potted Shrimp for Dad and Duck Parfait for me. Both delicious but why, oh why, is such a huge lump of what is ostensibly pate, served with only one slice of toast? Not just at The Canton Arms but everywhere! No matter, we just asked for more. Our mains took a while longer to arrive but the friendliness of the bartender Adam, more than made up for the wait. Venison and Mash for Dad, Skate for me. Whilst my dish was tasty, I do think Skate is such a disappointing fish! But with a carafe of wine and some ice cream for pudding, the bill totted up to a very reasonable £70 for two.
