THAI BREAK, 30 Uxbridge Street, London W8 7TA

21/04/2011

Before I write anything about this restaurant, I should say the only reason a group of us went there to eat was because it was the only place we could find open, serving sit-down food, at 10.30pm on a Thursday night in Notting Hill.  So I wouldn’t have picked it by choice.

I needed to use the facilities on arriving and that visit should have told me all I needed to know.  The toilets were some of the filthiest I’d ever seen in London. Again, if I hadn’t been with others who were desperate to eat (including myself), I would have left at this point.  I really do believe that a clean toilet area in an eating establishment usually signifies good cleanliness throughout…

Between the four of us, we only ordered a small amount of food and it was edible enough but nothing spectacular.  Service was fast (a result perhaps of the late hour!) and the bill was suitable for what little we had.

But I can’t get those filthy toilets out of my head as I write this (!) so I wouldn’t recommend Thai Break.  Its a very minor point but I also dislike these pun-type names for restaurants.  The only category they work for, in my opinion, is fish ‘n’ chip places – such as In Cod We Trust and so on.  But Thai Break..?  Please.  As a name its nearly as bad as Thai Ming.
